Selling machine tools is fast becoming a very lucrative profession today. The reason for this is that there has been more and more industrial companies, distributors, and manufacturers in the electrical business cropping up. In such industries, machine tools are an important part. While the newest and latest tools tend to be prohibitively expensive, there are some industrial companies who are willing to spend big bucks for an upgrade on their machine tools.

In order to be an effective machine tool salesman, you have to have certain qualities and abilities that will ensure your products will sell. Being a machine tool salesman might not be overly glamorous but it can be a lucrative career if you're willing to learn it. There are several tips you should know in order to be a more effective salesman:

1. Know your product. Such a tip might seem common sense, but nothing turns a customer off than a salesperson who doesn't know how their products work. Oftentimes, you are required to demonstrate your products to customers and show them how it works. There will also be times when a customer who has bought your products encounter a problem. In such cases, you should know how to fix their issue or at least point them to the right direction.

2. Establish rapport with your customers. A customer is your lifeline. Without them, you will have no business at all. It is important that you gain their trust and make them feel that they are number one in your book.

*Since machine tools can be very expensive, customer usually looks for the cheapest equipment. When this situation arises, always sell the customer the concept of "least total cost." It is important to persuade the customer and show them how the added service or benefits that your product offers can actually save them money in the long run.
