Blocked pathways can reduced the amount of Qi flowing in the body and consequently, imbalances happen. It is part of the belief that illnesses are caused by any imbalances of the Yin and Yang the terms for the positive and negative forces respectively of expansion or contraction.

A very good use for acupuncture is in the prevention of diseases as it is usually possible to detect imbalances that cause illnesses in the body. Early medical check up. is therefore recommended. These channels are connected to a specific area or organ system of the body.
