Diabetes has reached epidemic proportions in the United States affecting a huge percentage of people annually. Many people are not aware of their personal risk for diabetes (or diabetes-related complications if they are ALREADY a diabetic). Type II diabetes, or adult onset diabetes, can be prevented or delayed. If you need to just manage your diabetes read this article.
To figure out whether you are an American that is in this group you should have your blood glucose sugar levels checked. A blood sugar of 126/140 mg/dl for more than one test in a row is considered a person with diabetes. People who do not have blood sugar diabetes have levels between 70 and 110 mg/dl after a fasting blood test.
Why does Type II Diabetes occur? It occurs in mostly in fat people, but not always, and who do not take physical care of themselves. Also Type II occurs in older people. A person may have a first line relative that has diabetes so heredity weighs in too.
Many Type II diabetes treatments could be as simple as a better diet, exercising on a regular basis, controlling blood sugar with medication and loosing weight. If you think you may have diabetes get diagnosed by a medical professional. Managing diabetes can be at the very least life altering and should not be ignored.
As always educate yourself. Talk to your doctor and the druggist. You may be at risk and not even know it. Have blood tests done regularly. New products and services are released everyday that focus on helping Type II patients manage their blood sugar levels. Also be on the lookout for free testing offered at malls and drug stores in your area.
Weight loss surgery such as Gastric Bypass or GBS has been known to help normalize blood sugar in obese patients. This new development is too astounding to just overlook. It has been reported that after surgery 80 percent of patients experience normal blood sugar levels.
Look into a homeopathic approach to diabetes by visiting your health food stores or pharmacists. Adding vitamins or supplements can make a difference. As always, consult you doctor before trying anything non medical.
With proper education and control a person can avoid and manage blood sugar levels in an effort to live a normal life and avoid the complications of diabetes.
