Today, Hawaiian brides can wear anything from a white long-sleeved gown to a floral printed spaghetti dress. If those ladies were to marry earlier, they would not have as many options because only the holoku or holokeg were allowed as a wedding dress in old Hawaii.

Holoku is a long-sleeved gown with a long train at the back. It is close-fitting around the waist and hips. It used to be a clothing exclusively worn by Hawaiian queens. But after awhile, it became an outfit worn even by commoners in Hawaii. It was so commonly used that it served as their everyday wear in the past. Holoku is traditionally made of silk because it was the Chinese people who introduced its material to Hawaiian natives.

There is little difference between the old holoku and its new version. Many of the added design found on the new holoku are just updates to make it catch up with the latest fashion trends. One holoku style has a shorter hemline and no sleeves, making it an ideal bridal outfit for beach weddings.

If you want to go for a more modern Hawaiian wedding dress, then a sarong would be a fine choice. Not only is it made of breathable fabric, it also has a perfect style as a wedding beach dress with its bright floral prints. Since a sarong is a huge cloth you just wrap around your body, you can adjust its length with much ease. You can wear it with the hemline reaching the ankles, knees or even your calves. Some styles of this Hawaiian wedding dress can be worn more conveniently as they have buttons or snaps attached to them.

Another bonus is that unlike traditional wedding clothes, these great Hawaiian outfits are very easy to get.
