Modern Designer Jewelry Is Reflective Of The Events

In the last few decades modern jewelry designers have been very aware of the events occuring in the world and they have made special designs inspired by those events. We only have to think about the first atomic bomb. This event has inspired modern jewelry designers into the creation of jewelry reflecting starbursts and sprays of diamonds. Jewelry design also implies taking in account the time of day or night when the jewelry is being worn. Daytime usually reflects gold jewelry while during the evening and night diamonds are the preferred choice

Florentine finishes, foxtail chains, mesh and similar are preferred for golden jewelry that is being worn during daytime. Alternative to this are string of pearls, natural or cultivated. These pearl based designs were very popular amongst the modern jewelry designers in the fifties

In the sixties, famous for its very colorful history gave birth to hybrid jewelry designs and women also started to wear silver jewelry, gemstones and geode crystals alongside the more traditional diamonds, gold and platinum. The flower Power era inspired the jewelry designers to create brilliant cuts for the diamonds like organic or abstract and jagged shapes. Some designers even started to use regular metals in their designs.

The use of new materials in jewelry designs in the seventies like rock crystals, ivory, wood or coral was mainly due to the fact that women spoke up and started to express their feelings about jewelry design. The womens movement and feminism of the seventies required from jewelry designers to make more personalized jewels.

In the eighties and beginning of the nineties people tended to become more affluent which was noted by the jewelry designers and they started to create more glamorous, sparkling and glitzy styles of jewelry. When the princess of Wales, Lady Di wedded there was again an obvious change in the creation of designs , shifting to a more elegant and graceful touch.

Since then, and from the year 2000 to the present it seems that modern designer jewelry is being made from hybrid and also non-precious metals and new techniques are being used to design multicolored diamonds and pearls' jewelry. There is also the Precious Metal Clay or PMC that is being used along with gemstones that are synthetic so that the new designs have become even more unique than ever before.

From ancient time when man started to be aware of it`s presence on this world and the acknowledgment of the existence of supreme powers the jewelry designers of old have produced amulets, talismans, jewelry for protection and sacred jewelry in many different forms and designs. This tradition of creating Spiritual Jewelry has never disappeared. Even today modern jewelry designers still make spiritual jewelry based on the ancient traditions. This spiritual jewelry is made to offer protection and blessings from God and Nature and their unique designs are precious and a worthy alternative to more classic designs.
