First you must start with a demolition process before you remodel bathrooms. You start by first removing the old tile from the walls. You then have to remove the vinyl from the floor. Place an electric fan blowing out the window so the dust from the demolition will blow out. If you want to replace the tub you will have to break it apart using a sledge and remove it out in sections.

A plumber needs to seal up the water pipes so you will not have to turn off the water to whole house. Once demolition is complete you will put in three quarter inch plywood to create a good base for the new tile. You probably want to add safety bars above the shower stall. You have add more framing between the studs to attach the safety bars.

Next lay concrete on the base of the shower stall so you will have a strong foundation where you will place the shower stall base. You need to level the concrete so you will have a level shower stall base.

The shower base, made out of fiberglass, has to be leveled perfectly and then attached into the wall supports. With the shower base installed protect it with cardboard covered by a plywood layer while you work above it during the renovation completion.

Construction glue needs to be attached to the framing board above the shower base for the cement board to be attached next. Cut the cement board to fit over the shower base. Then nail it into the framing which has had the construction glue applied. Cement board is one half inch cement and fiberglass mix. After the cement board has been nailed on tape the seams and then spread a water proof sealant over all the cement board to make it water proof.

Next is the electrical work. You need to cut holes in the wall to run electrical wires for the exhaust fan above the shower. Then you need to measure and install cement board on the floor which will be the base for the tile floor. Spray the walls and ceilings so when you paint they will look textured and you will not see the holes where you did the cut outs.

Place the tile around the shower wall with a thin set adhesive. For a smart design you can place diagonal cut pieces of a different color on the middle of the wall. Floor time is placed once the wall tile is allowed to dry overnight. Next install wax coating of the bottom walls. The toilet and vanity are placed in once the tile on the floor dries overnight. Then grout the wall tile.

Next install the shower door. You need to level the sides of the shower door. Drill holes in the tile to attach the shower door. All that has to be done now is the painting of the bathrooms. Total completion time is about five days. Share on Facebook
